Ian Delgado & Ares Epps go 1-2 in the 800

The two Green Hope stars Ian Delgado and Ares Epps finished 1st and 2nd in the boys 800 running an NC#1 1:53.53 and NC#3 1:54.10 with Delgado taking the win.

We had hoped the race would be a meet record performance, but with a lot of strong 800 runners in the race it made for a lot of shuffling around and made it hard for athletes to get good positioning.  Delgado lead the race with Davnote Fuller (Stratford, SC) through the 400 in around 55 seconds, but there were athletes right on there shoulder who passed them just after.  About 8 athletes were in contention up front and just under 300 meters to go Sean Petersen (Green Hope) took the lead.

Delgado was boxed in heading down the backstretch, but swung wide taking the lead heading into the final 200.  Delgado had many boys chasing him down including Theo Woods (E.C. Glass) and Kyle Durham (Weddington) as well as Epps who looked to come out of no where storming down the homestretch.  Epps was able to take down the rest of the field taking second to teammate Delgado as they finish 1-2-5 in the race as a team.
