State Records That Could Fall This Outdoor Season

Boys 3200

This record was set last year by Connor Lane (Cardinal Gibbons) who broke Jake Hurysz (Eastern Alamance) state record of 8:49.76 by running 8:47.00 at Arcadia.  What makes this record hard to break is that you really have one shot at breaking it by running at Arcadia.  8 of the top 10 All-Time 3200 marks have been set at that meet.

This year we'll have two boys that are capable of breaking it in Cameron Ponder (Mount Tabor) and John Tatter (R.J. Reynolds).  Ponder became the first junior to break 9 last year by running NC#10 All-Time 8:56.49 at Arcadia, and John Tatter ran 9:01.72 at Dash for Doobie at the end of the cross country season.  Tatter was set back by injury at the end of indoors, but when he's back and healthy he certainly has a shot to challenge Lane's record.

Ponder just debuted in 4:13 for the 1600 at Marvin Ridge and broke both the indoor Mile and 1000 records this season.  It's clear he'll be chasing records.  He also said he's eyeing Craig Engel's 1600/Mile State Record this outdoor season or 4:02.55 (1600) or 4:03.96 (Mile) set in 2012.
