Providence Invitational Meet Preview: Can Team NC Hold Off A SC Invasion?

Open Races

In the boys Open Race individually Colin Alexander (Pinecrest) should steal the show.  Though he comes in with a PR of 16:24 he's coming off a track season where he ran 1:57 and 4:20.  He seems to be the most talented boy in this field.  Luke Wolaver (Marvin Ridge) should contend as well after a strong track season for Marvin Ridge.  Wolaver has run 4:30 and 9:55 on the track with an XC PR of 16:25.  He was 11th last season at the 3A State Championships.

The girls battle should be a good one between Chandler Mccaslin (North Lincoln), Michaela Gammon (Lincoln Charter) and Jaeden Phelix (Piedmont). The three hold PRs of 19:13, 19:15 and 19:20 respectively.  Both Mccaslin and Phelix were all-state in 3A last fall while Gammon is the defending champion in this race at the NCHSAA 1A classification.  There are 5 others who have broke 20 minutes in XC that will hope to have a breakout start to their sophomore season.  The team battle should be a tight one between Blue Ridge (SC), James Island (SC), Marvin Ridge and North Lincoln.
