13 Races To Watch From The NCHSAA 4A State Championships

Girls 100m Hurdle Finals

Coming into Friday Sierra Fletcher (Southeast Raleigh) was the top seed and only girl under 14 after her 13.97 win over Taylor Scott (Wakefield).  Scott and Charnessa Reid were in Heat 1 of the prelims below.  Scott clocked an impressive as they both grabbed the two auto qualifiers.

Section 2 came along with a rematch from indoors and the Bojangles Classic between Junior Akira Rhodes (Mallard Creek) and sophomore Sierra Fletcher.  You'll see Rhodes was not messing around in these prelims getting out of the blocks extremely well and powering to the line ahead of top seed Fletcher.  Rhodes also matched Fletchers NC#1 mark of 13.97.  Fletcher took 2nd also grabbing an auto spot to the finals.

Three of these girls, Fletcher, Rhodes and Reid, were in the final section at Bojangles Classic where Fletcher was able to edge Rhodes showing she could be the favorite for the 4A title.   But as the gun went off in the finals Rhodes was off to a fast start and showed  today was going to be her day!  She and Scott were out well as Rhodes had a slight advantage.  Over the last few hurdles Rhodes accumulated a little more distance on the field as she clocked 13.90 to Scott's 14.08 good for NC#1 and NC#4 respectively!  Fletcher and Reid took 3rd and 4th respectively.

What's the best part about this field?  The entire top 4 return next season in what's going to be an epic rematch!
