Five Stories From The Guilford County Championships!

Senior Zacora McKnight, of T W Andrews, has only been hurdling for a short while. According to her, "my coach saw me messing around with the hurdles on the track one day and he said, 'maybe you should give it a try?' So I did and now I'm Guilford County Champ! It feels really great. It means a lot to me and I'm glad I had great competition beside me to push me all the way." As she caught her breath in the infield she continued, "Coach Barnes' advice to me before the hurdles was 'run your own race. No one can beat you but you." She clocked 44.21 a 2+ second PR.

McKnight entered the race after runners up efforts in the Triple Jump and Long Jump. She hop, skipped, and leapt to 37' 9 ½" in the former and 17' 4" in the latter. She improved over all of her 2015 performances at the same meet.

She energized herself pre-meet with a chicken biscuit since she was running late to get to school to catch the bus to the meet. In between the field events and her race she revealed she was "walking around the infield and stretching."

Watch McKnight run 46.46 earlier in the season to win the Neal Morris Invitational, she ran 2 seconds faster at the Guilford County Championships!
