T.W. Andrews Girls over Cummings - 1A/2A Girls

Coming into the meet this was going to be the biggest head to head team battles, and it certainly lived up to the hype.  T.W. Andrews was favored in the virtual meet, but with only four girls on their roster and three competing in four individual events, they would not be able to contest the 4x200 where they were heavy favorites.  So it seems like Cummings would have a slight edge coming in.  But it was T.W. Andrews four athletes who were able to take down the powerhouse Cummings by just three points with a score of 76-73.

Nicole Barnes would need to have a big day in the 55m Dash, 55mH, Long Jump & Triple Jump if they were going to win, and she certainly exceeded expectations.  Barnes took 2nd in the 55mH running 8.24, won the 55m Dash in a PR if 7.19, won the Long Jump in 18-1.25 and took third in the triple jump with a PR of 37-4.  Barnes was crowned MVP at the concussion of the meet.

Peighton Simmons was entered in the 300, Long Jump, Triple Jump and High Jump and scored in three of the four events.  Simmons took 8th in the Long Jump, set a massive PR and NC#1 mark in the triple jump of 39-8, good for NC#7 All-Time Indoors, and set a two second seasons best in the 300 taking third in 41.06.  Simmons DNS the high jump.

Zacora McKnight competed in the 300, Long Jump, Triple Jump and High Jump scoring in all four events.  She took second in the 300 with a big PR of 40.86, second in the triple with a PR of 38-5.5, 6th in the Long Jump with a mark of 17-1.5 and 8th in high jump equaling her seasons best of 4-10.

Ciseley Brown had to score points in the 500 and it was just enough to give T.W. Andrews the 3 point edge over Cummings.  She took 6th in a 3 second PR running 1:21.83 winning the 3rd section out of 4.

With Cummings going 2-3-4 and T.W. Andrews slightly faltering in the long jump it seemed like Cummings was going to pull ahead.  But the girls bounced back in the triple jump sweeping the event which was key in their success.  Simmons and McKnight's huge day in the 300 also played a big factor as they came in seeded 6th and 7th.

This will be an epic rematch we between the two schools outdoors as both T.W. Andrews and Cummings fall within the 2A Mideast Region.  The regional result will play a huge factor in the momentum heading into states as both teams are loaded in the long and triple jump where only 4 girls can advance.  T.W. Andrews said they hope to add some numbers to their roster outdoors.
