NCHSAA 4A Girls Indoor State Championships Preview

Distance

1600m

With no Nevada Mareno running for Leesville Road Isabel Zimmermann has grabbed the spotlight in NC and ran with it.  She's been dominant throughout the indoor season and just narrowly been missing breaking 5 minutes over the indoor season.  She placed 3rd last indoor season and will come in as the favorite this year.  Kate Eiselt (Myers Park) had a huge PR at the David Oliver Classic where she won the Elite Mile in  5:06.14 making he the second seed in this event.  Also Sara Platek (Ragsdale) will drop down to the 1600 where she's run 5:04.47.  Platek is a stronger 3200 runner, but you cannot count out her tremendous talent over any distance event.

1000m

Isabel Zimmermann and Reagan teammate Sophie Faircloth enter as the top 2 seeds at 2:58.62 and 3:03.54 respectively.  Annie Pierce (Cardinal Gibbons) is the top returner after running 3:04.55 last season.  She has a seasons best mark of 3:05.94 from David Oliver ranking her 10th on the performance list.  Tiara Patterson Mills (Mt. Tabor) took 29th in this event last season, but now comes in as the #3 seed after a break out performance at Mt Tabor Polar Bear.  Elise Wright (TC Roberson), Aureilya Harris (Rocky River) and Janay Hall (South View) are also serious contenders for the win.  The top 10 girls all have run under 3:06 this indoor season. We could see many girls break 3 minutes this weekend.

3200m

Sara Platek (Ragsdale) will look to defend her indoor 3200 title from last season and proved last weekend that she's in as good of shape than her seed time of 10:36.26.  Platek clocked a 9:49 for 3000 meters in against a pro field at Camel City Elite last weekend.  Isabel Zimmermann (Reagan) has been great all indoor season, but will have a tough task of taking down Platek after a 1600, 1000 and possible 4x800.  Sloan Walter (Cardinal Gibbons) should also be in that lead group along with Kate Eiselt (Myers Park) and Calli Parlier (Apex).
