The majority of teams that lose their top 2 would normally be looking at a rebuilding year. With the loss of Matt Thornton Cary has no sole runner. But they return their 3-7 who were all within 11 seconds of each other in the 2015 season. They will have no true guy that they will be able to count on to be a consistent #1 this season for the Imps.
James Lundergan was the top guy for Cary in the track running a 4:36 1600 but and 2:01. But right behind him were his four teammates who return just behind him on the XC course. These five guys all competed against each other last year trying to score in the top 5 for Cary, so they'll be ready for the inter squad competition once again this season.

There really is no telling who will be the leader for the Imps, and quite honestly an elite #1 runner is what is keeping Cary from being a top 5 team this XC season. They have no true #1 and not much depth beyond their fifth runner. If someone gets hurt they'll really need someone to fill in a sub 16 minute roll or they'll be in big trouble. They rank 5th amongst all 4A Mideast schools, but the majority of Cary's top 5 PRed at the regional meet last season. If the Imp's top 5 is consistent this fall and all can cut down their time to the lower 16s they'll be a real force to be reckoned with this XC season.
