XC Preview: NCHSAA 1A By Region

Girls 1A Mideast Region

Teams to Watch

Raleigh Charter sits 10 points behind Franklin Academy in the returning team rankings, but any improvement from Raleigh Charter's number three and four could edge the team every slightly closer to a regional title. The 2014 Raleigh Charter team was also a young one, so expect to see the team improve its scoring as its former freshmen settle into high school training. This isn't to throw Franklin Academy out of the mix, as they only graduated one of their scoring runners.

Athletes to Watch

Juniors Hannah Zenker of Franklin Academy and Jade Ogilvie of Woods Charter School sit well above the rest of the Mideast field, posting 2014 season performances nearly one minute ahead of the next finisher. Barring the rise of new talent or exceptional improvement of other returners, Zenker and Ogilivie seem to have secured their positions as Mideast champion and runner-up, respectively. It would take a PR of roughly 30 seconds to make Zenker a contender for a win over Shawnda Martin of Robbinsville at the State Championship, but she could certainly make a run for the runner-up position.
