Dynasty Redefined: 4A Girls State Meet Recap

An amazing thing happened during the 4A Girls race last Saturday - the sun came out!  For a few brief moments, everyone at Ivey Redmon Sports Complex was able to bask in its warmth...and then it clouded over again, and the wind picked up, and we all went back to feeling cold.  Oh yes, and another amazing thing was afoot during this event: the Green Hope girls were running for their 6th consecutive team title, a feat that no other NCHSAA school has ever accomplished, either in boys' or girls' competition (two NCISAA schools have streaks that long or longer, but the independent 3A classification has far less schools - and depth - than the public 3A 'sor 4A's).  We saw last year that some of the state's other top programs are starting to close the gap on the Falcons, making it tougher each year for them to keep the streak alive.
