North Carolina goes BIG this weekend

Raleigh Running Outfitters Mile Under the Stars

Saturday night at Cardinal Gibbons HS in Raleigh, some of NC's best took to the track in the mile. it proved to be quite a race, the fastest HS race ever run by NC athletes. The top 4 athletes are all ranked among NC's top 20 now, and 3 return next year. Could NC see 3 sub-4:10's next year?

(all times are hand and have been rounded up to the nearest tenth)

Dylan Ferris of East Forsyth won the event with a quick time of 4:08.1. This is the 2nd fastest HS time in the US this outdoor season. The top time is held by Matt Centrowitz of Maryland, who ran 4:03.40 at the Reebok Grand Prix in New York against pros this weekend. Very impressive as Dylan is only a junior.

In second was West Johnson senior, Dakota Lowery. He ran a personal best of 4:12.80 which ranks him 9th in the US. Dakota is headed to Charlotte next year to continue his running career.

Ryan Hill of Hickory, a junior and Foot Locker finalists this past XC season, finished 3rd with a huge PR. Ryan ran 4:13.2, his time ranks him about 11th in the US. For all of you doubters of Ryan's speed . . . here you go!

Sophomore sensation, Taylor Gilland of Chapel Hill, ran a big PR as well. Taylor hadn't run a fast mile in almost 2 months, so no one quite knew what to expect. He ran 4:13.8, which puts him around 15th in the US for a full mile.

Finally, Andy Wacker of Pinecrest, who's headed to "Run with the Buffaloes", ran a PR of 4:16.1. This is a solid PR for Andy who is considered more of a 2-miler on the track.

All of these gentlemen ran sub-4:15 equivalent 1600's, which is extremely impressive.

There were many other great times run, check out the results.

Excellent job!

West Charlotte's Edward Alexander also ran very well in the sprints. He finished 4th in the 100(10.62 in prelims) and was the 2nd fastest qualifier in the 200(21.43), but didn't run the finals.
