Senior Spotlight: Catherine Armstrong

The Southwest Edgecombe senior added two more state titles to her already impressive resume, and wants to continue competing.

Quick quiz: which active North Carolina athlete has the most individual state championships, not counting relays or team titles?  Blake Dodge (West Carteret)?  She has 8.  Reneazia Collins (Monroe)?  Also 8.  Isaiah Moore (Cummings)? 11 individual titles.  The correct answer, as I'm sure you have guessed, is Southwest Edgecombe's Catherine Armstrong, who has won 16 championships over her four-year career.  She could bring that up to 20 by the end of the spring if she competes in the maximun 4 events.  Aside from all the medals, she is engaging to talk with and has a firm handshake that speaks of her self-confidence.  She was quite nervous for this interview, but did very well.  See if, like me, you can form a very clear mental picture of her zooming through her school's hallways, her fellow students scattering to make way, knowing from experience that Catherine doesn't really limit herself in any way, let alone limit her speed between classes.  She's a perfect example of the value of hard work, and athletes of any ability can draw inspiration from her relentlessly positive attitude.
